Process Paper
Before I began my NHD project, I knew that I would have to make two of the most critical decisions ,one being picking a topic that intrest me the most and what type of project could I explain its legacy easiest , and second being who would I work with. I choose Tupac Shakur because he is someone that I am very interested in and I want to become more familiar with what made people see him the way they do today , finally settle the controversy between him and the many others he had “beef”with ,and to finalize how I feel what the media wrote is true or false.
I began my research by looking at a lot of secondary sources and primary sources to get the basic idea of the historical content of the era he lived in and the era that cultivated his mind into something as brilliant as it came to be. I began researching the 60’s (the time his mother really had an impact In her community) to see what his mom did in her past for Tupac to consider her his biggest impact in his life. After getting the basic idea of the controversial problems happening in the 60s I looked at the years Tupac was active in the industry and I looked at his lyrics very critically to consume the most details of what he was trying to explain through the art of music.
Now that I have an extensive amount of research the hardest part of this project would probably have to be explain his impact and legacy to the judges or to anybody who thought Tupac was just another rapper that died like someone that lived a life of violence and no integrity in just a 8-10 min film.I would have to cut out a lot of the details that leads up to the anger or the calmness that he had in his soul at the time.I believe that only at particular moments in history is what made him act the way he did. Most of the research I found portrayed Tupac as a careless, ignorant thug that lived a life of crime.
My documentary relates to both aspects to this years theme: Impact and Legacy because it shows how he impacted modern day life through his lyrics and speeches. He also leaves a legacy no other dead rapper has ever left to this generation. He leaves us with another perspective into the government and the problems that were left unsolved in the U.S. We would never think that the government would ignore such critical problems in the U.S just because it didn’t affect there lifestyle.
